A macchiato is stronger because it has less liquid.
A macchiato's volume is typically about one-half that of a latte, which often has two shots of espresso in 5 ounces (150 ml) of brewed coffee. Because the shot is concentrated in half the liquid, there is more caffeine than in a regular latte. But if you want to get an equivalent amount of caffeine with the same strength as any other drink, you should order double espresso.
