Hi Chandra!
Yes! While most of us aren’t accustomed to the idea of steeping coffee in bags as we do with tea, coffee bags are rising in popularity. They’re easy to use and require no brewing skills, so a lot of casual coffee drinkers and those who don’t have the time to brew resort to using coffee bags.
Similar to tea bags, coffee bags are made of a sieve-like material filled with ground coffee. There are variations that involve opening the bag and pouring hot water through this, similar to a pour-over brew. These bags can be made of a variety of materials including non-woven, biodegradable fabric and paper. This makes them easy to dispose of and can potentially reduce your coffee waste at home. The major drawbacks of using coffee bags are that you don’t have much control over how much ground coffee goes into your cup and there’s a big chance that you end up over-extracting or under-extracting.
As an alternative to pre-filled coffee bags, you can buy unfilled sachets and fill them with your own coffee to be steeped. This gives you much more control over the final brew. Whatever you choose, coffee bags are undeniable convenient and great for travelling, brewing in a hurry, or simply as a little experiment in your coffee journey!
