Hey Asharita,
Even though the process looks easy and it takes a barista less than a couple of minutes to make a delicious coffee, it involves many steps and requires a lot of attention to detail.
It also depends on what coffee you’re trying to make. If you’re wondering how to make espresso at home, it starts with proper equipment.
Investing in a good quality grinder, an espresso machine, scale, and a tamper, is the first step to making coffee like a barista.
But the secret of how to make espresso isn’t only in equipment. A great-tasting espresso requires fresh coffee beans, a consistently fine grind, a precise amount of coffee grounds, and a well-calibrated espresso machine that extracts the delicious concentrated shot in around 30 seconds.
And if you’re asking yourself how to make a latte like a barista, you will need an espresso machine that has a steam wand and a proper milk-frothing technique.
Once you have the equipment, you can start by watching online tutorials that give you a step-by-step guide on how to brew coffee like a pro. But to make a delicious cup of coffee every time, you need to practice.
So don’t get discouraged when your first coffees don’t taste that great. Just keep on practicing!
Let me know how you get on!

Brewing coffee at home can save a lot of money for someone who drinks a lot of coffee, but the first step is to buy a good grinder. The grinder should be able to grind beans as fine as espresso.
Drip machines make a nice cup of filter-coffee, but they don't always guarantee consistent flavor because they depend on water temperature and water flow rate. If you're adventurous, pour over stalls use an old fashioned dripper with paper filters or bamboo filters.
There are even some companies producing pour over wands that attach directly to our electric brewers! Then just experiment with different brew parameters until you find your perfect combo of grind size and time per plunge (typically 30 seconds).
There are tons of tutorials out there that can help you do this, but it takes a lot of practice to get the hang of it. Once you've gotten the skill down, it opens up so many doors for making drinks around the house for friends and family.
