What's the difference between macchiato and latte?

A macchiato has espresso poured into a small amount of milk, that is then layered on top. The latte has espresso mixed with milk, that are then blended together to create the finished drink. I usually order a macchiato when I just want a bit of sweetness and boost my energy.
